Class of the Week: Posen Boar Spear Fighter

A boar spear is a five to seven foot long polearm with a crossbar behind the tip that can force opponents back away from the wielder. In the hands of a trained Posen Boar Spear Fighter, the weapon becomes twice as deadly as it sounds.

Heavily armored and firmly planted atop a warhorse, sits the formidable Boar Spear Fighter, ready to burst into action with devastating results. At the start of a battle, these fighters expend a great deal of effort, then retires to the reserves to brag about the number of "pigs" or foot soldiers he killed.

The Boar Spear Fighters are a hearty lot, able to withstand great amounts of damage as well as resist effects that would deplete their fortitude. The reflexes are as sharp as any warrior on the battlefield. Their training outside of their martial talents is quite limited, but with their two bonus feats, rarely are two Boar Spear Fighters alike; an advantage to be certain.

Just prior to mastering the school is when the student becomes noticeably more effective then other practioners. Calling upon their training, their strength, dexterity and constitution are greatly enhanced for the encounter, leaving the enemy heavily damaged if not beaten outright.

At this point, their military superiors call for them to return to the reserve ranks where then the foot soldiers come in and mop up what is left. The Boar Spear Fighter is weakened at this point, having expended much energy in manuevering the horse, wielding the polearm and probably carrying around the added weight of heavy armor.

Opposing tacticians mobilize their own cavalry as quickly as possible to run out and meet the Boar Spear Fighters. This eliminates the horseback advantage, but it is more designed to cut off their retreat to the reserves.

Such a tactic may seem quite obvious and predictable, but opponents should be forewarned! Already mentioned is the bonus feats a Posen Fighter may have, and if by chance the wielder of the spear is a master of the school, the additional and full strength attack can pierce through "pigs" as fast as they can try to encircle this mounted master.
